COMMUNITY SPIRIT RENEWED.
On Wednesday 17th December, the Parish Pastoral Council hosted another very enjoyable Christmas Concert
in the Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Glasnevin, performed by the Glasnevin Musical Society, this year also
included St. Mary’s Holy Faith Secondary School Girls Choir. The Glasnevin Musical Society were excellent and
performed a selection of Musical Hits, Poems and Christmas Carols and the very talented Girls Choir treated
us to a beautiful selection of Christmas Carols. The parishioners turned out in large numbers and there was a
great sense of community spirit around. Everyone enjoyed the concert and the Parish Council members received
very positive comments afterwards. When the concert finished, we all adjourned to the community centre
downstairs, where we enjoyed mulled wine, mince pies and other refreshments. It was great to see neighbours
and friends come together for such a lovely occasion and it was suggested by some parishioners that we should
make this an annual event. As we all mingled, chatted and enjoyed a festive drink, the raffle got underway.
There was a great selection of prizes for the raffle, some of which were donated by parishioners and
some by local businesses.
Having cleared our expenses for the night, the remaining cash amounted to €1,465 which was donated to
Br. Kevin, Capuchin Day Centre, Church St. It was accepted with thanks and appreciation and a novena
of Masses was offered over Christmas for all concerned. It was certainly a great night for the parish
but even more so, people were happy to be given the opportunity to contribute to the important
humanitarian work carried out on a daily basis by Br. Kevin in Church St.
